Color Guard

Color guard is an activity that accompanies a marching band by providing visuals and color to the performance with flags, props and weapons among other things. Membership in the color guard is open to both boys and girls, and no prior music or band experience is required, although skills in dance and gymnastics are helpful and students must be in excellent physical condition. Sometimes, band members will be in the color guard during the marching season, then play their instruments during the spring concert season. Membership in the BHS Color Guard is by audition only.

Winter Guard

Marching band season not enough for you? The BHS Winter Guard team performs and competes their indoor routine throughout the winter months, choreographed to recorded music. It’s much more than a dance team. It involves props, flags, rifles, costumes and precision formations.

While you are not required to be a member of the marching band color guard in order to join winter guard, an audition process is held and participation in the BHS marching band in some capacity is required. Sometimes, students who play instruments in the marching band will join Winter Guard. They find it exciting and challenging, and enjoy the "visual performance" aspect of the routines.
